The Importance of Scripts and Storyboards

A storyboard/ script is a way to decide the structure of a video or film. If you’re reading this, then you probably already know that, but why is it truly important?
It acts like a blueprint, similar to when you are trying to build something. It makes it so there is a set plan and everyone is on the same page. It is the best way to be able to save time, money, and make higher-quality content overall. It also helps you by guiding your decision on your message and its clarity.
In a class I took once, I had to make a video about my 10 top favorite books. I am an absolute book nerd, so I figured that this would be easy. I thought that if I just knew what books I wanted to list and the order of them that it would be simple and quick. I quickly learned, after trying to record over ten times (super fast, I know), that it was not going to be that simple. I took a break to write a script and learn it before recording. It was much faster, smoother, and simpler. If I had taken the time to do that in the first place, then it would have saved a lot of time and headaches.
Professionally, you don’t have time to mess around and waste time. Your responsibility is to provide content efficiently and for it to be your best work. That cannot be done with improv and ad-libbing, unless you’re an actor.
Some employers may not understand the importance of script writing, but this is how I believe it can be best explained to them!
