Information
Professional writing covers several types of writing and is important for several reasons. See, it’s about more than just putting words on a page, calling it good, and publishing it. Each time you write professionally, it is a chance to improve your craft and put your best foot forward by making your content available. You should always aim to improve each time and use them as practice; even a “master author” can always become better. Each work you create is another first impression someone will get of you, be it an employer, colleague, potential business partner, publisher, or reader. As you produce more high-quality content, it becomes easier for people to find you. This also helps you develop your tone. Amateur writers tend to base their writings on what they have read before. Before you get offended by that, the word is based on Latin and used to describe people who love to do something, but they don’t do it professionally/for money.
In my COMM 310 course, we will do projects and assignments that will help us develop clear and professional writing and teach us how to adapt our writing to different platforms and match our content to the type of audience we have or are aiming for. We will get practice with press releases, video scripts, social media posts, and more! The new or improved skills will improve my writing so that I become more than an amateur. I love writing in so many forms, and I aim to become better than I was before.
