Regardless of the content you create, you will experience challenges, but also things you truly love! Some of them even blend together.
While writing, I loved the idea of creating characters, worlds, societies, social structures, histories, and even more. However, putting it in a written, cohesive manner felt impossible. I had spent over a year world-building for a story I’d never write. I’d named the world, the species, made magical spells, potions, skills, technology, and I’d even gone into the nitty-gritty of deciding how their plumbing system would work. It was nice to have a passion but I wish that it had gone forward into actually writing it.
So what was the challenge? Putting it into writing. What was the joy? Creating the world that would have existed.
While working on video-making/ editing, I have a love/hate relationship with the actual editing part. If I have an idea in mind before I start editing, I have confidence in my skills and look forward to putting it together. I absolutely love seeing an idea come together to match exactly what I saw in my mind.If I don’t know what I want to do beforehand, then it feels tedious searching for assets, sounds, filters, and effects. I never feel confident with those projects. Ironically, those videos sometimes do better than the ones I have plans for.
I appreciate the good and the bad of making content; I feel they both give me a chance to become better. My editing skills have improved significantly since I started on this journey. It has also taught me patience, you never know when something is worth the effort. I spend at least thirty minutes to an hour on most videos that I make. The more challenges I face, the more I learn about who I am as a creator.
