Looking Back

For a class assignment, I had to create a Nike promo video and then two social media posts to go with it. I had chosen to “post” on Instagram and TikTok. My original reasoning, to sum it up, was that they were two of the most active platforms and the best for marketing.

HOWEVER

Hindsight is always 20/20.

Here’s the one thing I wish I had done differently:

Research

When I chose the hashtags for the posts, I went off of what I felt would work the best, but didn’t do a whole lot of research on the matter. I believe that my post would have been better if I had done some research into Nike posts to see what kind of hashtags they used on both platforms and how each post performed. The analytics would have included likes, views, shares, and comments to see how positively or negatively it was received. I think that it could also be of a benefit to try to see what gender or ages people were who commented, but people use figurative names or profile pictures regularly, so it wouldn’t be worth the effort. If it were my content that I was looking at, both Instagram and TikTok can show you the analytics of who interacts with your content!

I also learned that when you use TikTok Studio to post, you are able to use unlimited hashtags, as opposed to the limit that is on the TikTok app directly. I know that in some situations it is better to use fewer hashtags and sometimes it is better to use more, but that seems to be dependent on what you are creating and who you want it to reach.

Even when you post content every day, you should do periodic research to see if you’re keeping up with the times and what people are interested in. They change as regularly as the tide if you’re not careful!
